SOLD** RIGBY BOXLOCK EJECTOR, Sackville Grade, 12 Gauge – 2 ¾”Nitro - 28" M/IC, in maker’s case, Excellent Plus
John Rigby & Co., 13 Pall Mall St. London S.W.1, built in 1975, this classic is in excellent condition, retaining 99% barrel blue and 97% case colors, the original wood finish is at 99%, The checkering at 98%, The bores are bright and shiny and ring with a pronounced chime.
This is a perfect example of the quintessential English boxlock. If you wanted to own one gun to represent the English boxlock, you could do no better than this. It is from one of the most respected and prominent makers, it has all the popular features: scalloped receiver, beaded fences, automatic ejectors and automatic top tang safety with SAFE inlaid in gold and nearly full coverage scroll (deluxe) engraving and full English styling.This exact gun is shown on YouTube, Special Guns with Roger Rule, Episode 6. Its English walnut stock has outstanding figure and color with splinter forearm with an inlaid engraved metal diamond shape and inlaid engraved forend tip with Anson push-rod release, straight English grip, classic point-pattern checkering with teardrops and a vacant inlaid “gold” oval for your initials (not nickel, silver or brass). It’s finished off with ¾” leather-covered recoil pad stained perfectly with the grain of the wood.
Its 28” SxS barrels have smooth concave rib and brass front bead: LOP is 14 3/8” from front trigger, with 1 ¼”- 2” drop and ½” cast off for right hand shooter. Weight 5 lbs.15oz.
Inscriptions: “John Rigby & Co. 13 Pall Mall St. London S.W.1” as marked on the barrels, and “John Rigby & Co.” on both sides of the receiver surrounded by full coverage English scrolls.

About Rigby: According to Geoffrey Boothroyd, Rigby’s “date of foundation was 1735” which “flourished in Dublin (and) Opened their London shop at 72 St.James’s Street in 1866 under the management of John Rigby.”
George Caswell of Champlin Arms gives a brief history from there:
“Rigby was at 72 St. James's St from 1866 to 1907 and then at 43 Sackville St. from 1908 to 1955 and then on to 32 King Street, St James's. In 1963 the shop moved to 28 Sackville Street and in 1969 to 13 Pall Mall (where this gun was made). In 1984 J Roberts & Son (Gunmakers) Ltd bought the company and in 1985 moved it their premises to 5 King Street, Covent Garden. In 1987 the factory and shop moved to 66-68 Great Suffolk Street, Southwark. In 1997 the goodwill and rights to the Rigby name were bought by Rogue River Rifle Works and a new company, John Rigby & Co Inc. was formed at 1317 Spring Street, Paso Robles, California. On about March 1, 2013 John Rigby & Co. was acquired by Blaser of Germany. All connections with the unbelievable and indescribable mess in California have been severed, and the Rigby Company has moved back to London and is run by Marc Newton and Patricia Pugh. I wish them well, Long live the King!”
