Description:

U.S. Army Model 1842 Smoothbore Percussion Pistol, Caliber .54, Manufactured in 1851 by Henry Aston, Middleton, Connecticut

Standard US Army issue from 1845  through the Mexican War, and still used in the Civil War. This example is original and complete, in very good condition. Barrel in original arsenal bright turned gray, with brass front sight blade, barrel rear stamped with "US", "WN" and "P", and on left side with "JH". A swivel with attached buttoned headed steel ramrod is mounted at the front of the barrel. This is complete and fully functional. Strong mainspring and good mechanics at both the full and half cock. The lock plate is stamped in front of the hammer "US', underneath which is "H. Aston & Co"; and vertically at the rear of the hammer, "MIDDTN", underneath which is "CONN", and underneath that is "1851". There is good wood to metal fit. Original wood finish is good with no cracks, showing only pressure marks and minor dings consistent with age and usage. The wood behind the nipple bolster has minimal erosion from firing. There are two sets of inspector initials still clearly visible on the left flat opposite the lock. The bottom of the brass butt plate has some small dings as shown in the pictures. The pistol is sold with the original nipple which is somewhat compressed from usage, and also a new period and piece correct reproduction nipple, both as shown in the last two pictures.

Price: $ 800,  plus $30 fixed shipping charge west of the Mississippi in Continental US, actual shipping cost east of the Mississippi.
