Description:
This is a nice example of the WW2 M1A1 Carbine that was issued to the elite American Airborne troops or Paratrooper units of both WW2 and the Korean War.  This example is an Inland serial number 5204512, which was manufactured in the Summer of 1944 and probably was one of the last issued during WW2.  It was later returned to a government arsenal, refurbished/rebuilt, and updated with some improved parts as most all were.  The likely 3 main changes made to this rifle at that time were a bayonet lug type barrel band was added, the rear sight was updated to the newer adjustable type for windage and elevation, and the safety was changed from a push button to the lever type.  This last change kept the soldier from accidentally dropping the magazine when trying to turn the safety off without looking in a high stress situation.  This M1A1 was stamped with the "circle P" on the side of the pistol grip indicating the U.S. arsenal rework was completed.  It is likely this carbine saw Korean War service after the rebuild and then at some point entered the civilian market after Korea was over.  The leather cheek rest and rivets have been replaced at some point after it left government service, as they are not U.S. military parts.  The rest of the this M1A1 stock appears to be original with the "IO" stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip, and the molded in manufacture's coding in the folding metal butt plate.  The springs that normally keep the butt plate square to the shoulder are missing on this example.  As you can see in the pictures, the rear of the stock below the receiver has been repaired.  It is a very good and 100% effective repair, and looks professional with the screw and brackets flush with the stock.  This M1A1 overall is in good condition with the normal wear and tear expected with service in 1 war and possibly 2.  The bore is in excellent shape and obviously has been well cared for.  It is bright and has strong rifling.  This M1A1 100% functions as it should.  All of the controls work including the bolt hold open, the safety, the mag release, and the rear sight adjustments.  This Inland M1A1 Paratrooper comes with one Gl magazine marked "RUGG", and what appears to be a Korean War/Vietnam era sling with a "Lift the Dot" marked snap.  If you have been wanting an original M1A1 Paratrooper carbine but have been discouraged by the high prices they command, here is your chance to get a real one that has obviously seen combat for a lot less money!  This Inland M1A1 Carbine could also be shot without hurting it's value as long as it's properly cared for and cleaned.
