Scottish small bore hammerguns are very hard to find, especially with a long stock! Dougall was an innovative gunmaker known for his high quality doubles. When cocked the hammers sit below the shooter’s line of sight. There is residual case coloring on the inside of the forearm and in a few other places on the frame. At 5lb 1oz this Dougall is a wand for woodcock, quail, and doves. Serial number is 3911. *** The TIG sleeved 28” extractor barrels are topped with a solid concave game style rib which is inscribed “J. D. Dougall & Sons Glasgow”. They were nitro proofed in London post 1989 for 2-3/4” cartridges and rated at 950 bar. They are choked Improved Cylinder and Light Modified. *** The highly figured stock is most likely a fairly recent replacement with modern dimensions. Checkering is crisp. The forearm appears to be original. The stock dimensions are 14-3/4” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 2-1/8”. Cast off for the right hand shot. *** British small bore hammerguns with long stocks and long barrels are very rare. Don’t let this one slip away. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if gun is not as described. SOLD Antique: Yes |
