Description:
***   SOLD   ***   An interesting and unique small bore hammergun from one of the better known provincial gunmakers, E.C. Green of Cheltenham. Beautifully figured walnut straight grip stock and splinter forearm with ebony tip. Nitro proofed for 3” cartridges. Shootable dimensions and sidelever opening! When cocked the hammers sit below the shooter’s line of sight. This gun was recently refurbished in the UK and has great bluing and stock finish.  ***   The 27-3/4” barrels have shiny bores, extractors and are topped by a solid concave game style rib. The barrels are nitro proofed for 3”(76mm) cartridges. The rib bears the following inscription: “ E. C. Green Cheltenham and Gloster”. The right barrel is bored 0.416 and has a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet choke. The left barrel is bored 0.418 with a constriction of 0.006 for Improved Cylinder choke. Finally, a .410 with true open chokes. Check the chokes on most small bores today and you will find them to be marked as being open but they are, in fact, choked very tight. This hammergun will make a great, fast handling little woodcock and quail gun.   ***   The straight grip stock is most likely a recent restock that was professionally done. Checkering is crisp and the stock has an ebony butt pad. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8” over a 5/8” ebony butt plate by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the right hand shot.   ***   British small bore hammerguns with long stocks and long barrels are very rare. Don’t let this one slip away. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if gun is not as described.   ***   See this beautiful gun and other fine doubles in the MacNab booth at The Southern Side-By-Side at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC on April 28th – 30th, 2017.
