Description:

Kentucky all original flintlock rifle .46 cal.? GREAT CONDITION. This is a very nice example of an unsigned, later "York School" Kentucky Flintlock rifle. The "James Golcher" name on the lock is likely that of the well known importer of English locks. It was probably made near the end of the flintlock period; circa 1820. The York school in York Pa. spilled over somewhat to the West. The characteristics of the rifle that suggest that it a York school are: Shape of patch box-Crescent moon inlays that were used almost exclusively by the York School-Curved comb and straight edge of lower butt often used in York School rifles. and lastly the slight taper of the rear ramrod pipe. The rifle is relatively plain. There is neither incised or raised carving on the cheek-piece side of the buttstock. There are only two brass inlays; Crescent moon and oval at the wrist. The patch box is two piece w/o engraving or side-plates. The maple stock however, exhibits a fair amount of curl. DO NOT LET THIS RARE FIND PASS. Buyer pays actual shipping, handling and insurance.
