We are pleased to offer for sale this very nice vintage Remington Model 550-1 that was manufactured in December of 1951. The Remington Model 550-1 .22 rifle was very unique in that it was a semi-automatic that was capable of cycling shorts, longs, and long rifle .22 cartridges. This capability made this rifle very versatile and attractive to buyers. It also has a reputation for very good accuracy regardless of action type; and Remington 550-1s were impressive both at the range and in the field. This example is a very attractive rifle in good condition overall. The original factory blue finish rates around 85% with complete coverage, but some spots are thinning and there is some speckling from prior surface rust that you can see in the pictures. The case colored trigger and safety however are 98% and look excellent. The original factory walnut stock is beautiful, with only the smallest of handling marks if you look very closely. The original factory black plastic Remington butt plate is also in excellent shape. The bore in this rifle is pristine. It is bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves in the rifling. This Model 550-1 is 100% complete and functional, and still has the factory brass deflector that is often missing from these rifles. This would be a great addition to any .22 rifle collection, and it represents an important step in the design of .22 rimfire autos with it's unique cycling capability.
