Produced in the 8XXX serial range and thus being made in 1880, this is a third year large frame D/A Colt. The exterior retains about 50-60% original nickel coverage and the density varying from 70% on the cylinder to 60% on the frame and 20% barrel; the remainder being smooth grey metal with minimal pitting where the nickel is gone. Where the nickel is missing is a combination of wear and being flaked off …basically on the barrel where it has the least finish. The barrel address is crisp and sharp, as is the serial number, BUT being a one line address, the barrel no doubt has been shortened from a longer length since a correct 4-3/4” barrel should have the two-line address. The original hard rubber grips are VG with some about 30% wear to the both grips. (see photos). The very often missing lanyard ring is also intact. A relatively inexpensive big frame double action Colt in good to very good condition and being well worth some modest gunsmithing to be a good shooter. $1245 SOLD Antique: Yes |
