Description:
Holland and Holland .458 Winchester Magnum, Mauser Action, built Circa 1970.  "Holland and Holland 13 Bruton Street, London" inscribed on top of barrel.  Highly figured walnut stock, hand oil finish, barrel band, gold oval with initials, stippling on barrel and rear sight, color hardened pistolgrip-cap with trap holding original replacement sight.  Zeiss Diavari-ZA 1.5 x 6 x 42, Holland and Holland quick release scope mounts.  Front sight mounted with barrel band and retractable hood, ramp mounted rear sight with one standing leaf (100 yds.) and one folding leaf (200 yds.).  Three position Mauser wing safety accompanied by tang safety.

Rifle length is 45 3/4 inches including 25 inch barrel and 14 1/4 LOP.

The condition of the rifle is excellent with minor blemishes on the right side of the stock near the butt that can only be seen when holding the gun up to the light.

A hairline chip in the stock immediately behind the action is shown in the photos.  An English trained gunsmith inspected and advised (February 2017) this is normal for big bore English rifles and further advised it was a relatively minor job to repair.  Interested buyers that require further information can contact the smith by sending me an inquiry.

Barrel bluing is worn on the top of the barrel beginning three inches from the muzzel continueing for one inch and being 1/8 inch wide (see photos).

For anyone going to Africa and not familiar with Winchester's 350 grain soft point for the .458 you should look into it.  It offers almost 5,000 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle with a fraction of the recoil of the .375 H & H magnum.  It's shockingly nice to shoot much like the .35 Whelen or a 9.3 x 62 mm.

Overall, a beatiful rifle that was purchased second hand directly from Holland in the early 1980s and spent all but three weeks of the past 35 years in a safe.
