Description:
Beautiful pair of double rifles manufactured by the famous Scottish gunsmith. Factory ledgers list these by serial number as being sold to Harry Panmure Gordon. Gordon was the founder of Panmure Gordon & Co. stock and investment bank. Both guns have outstanding detailed English scroll work, Damascus bbls, banners and "Alex Henry, Edinburgh and London Maker to their Royal Highness' The Prince of Wales and Duke of Edinburgh" on top of the ribs. Forearms are checkered as is the pistol grip buttstocks. They have blade front sights, shadow line cheekpieces, red recoil pads. The grip caps have small trapdoors that hold replacement firing pins. Both have a good amount of original brown finish on bbls and case color on frames. One has a recoil pad that has hardened and deteriorated. The other has partially refinished buttstock and period replacement recoil pad. Mechanics are good on both rifles. There is a leather takedown case with the "Alexander Henry Edinburgh & London" label inside the cover but it is in very poor condition and missing all the straps. Also some papers about Mr. Gordon and a book "The Land of the Almighty Dollar" written by Gordon accompanies them. These are a beautiful pair of double rifles manufactured by a famous Scottish gunsmith and owned by a prominent well known individual.
