SUPERB EARLY COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 7 ½” BLACK POWDER .45 CAL. REVOLVER W/FACTORY LETTER-1876 SHIP DATE. Serial number in the 27,xxx range and all matching with proper serial number stamping on the barrel under the ejector rod housing and on the outside of the cylinder. 100% original and with 90% plus color case hardening on the frame and hammer and 70% plus blue on the cylinder and 50% on the barrel with balance on both a pleasing and evenly mixed deep patina. Early style “donut” ejector rod head. Back strap and trigger guard with 90% plus bright blue. Excellent screws with most of the bright blue original finish. Mint markings with all serial number stampings and the barrel address and frame patent dates as crisp as they were struck at the factory in 1876. Original to the gun excellent factory one piece walnut grips with the original finish. Perfect working order and excellent bore and chambers. Factory letter states it was shipped to J. P. Moores Sons, New York, N.Y. June 29, 1876 only a week after the Custer Massacre. Moores was a major Colt dealer and distributor supplying guns smaller dealers and private buyers around the country. Local customers included many of the rich and famous from New York and visiting New York including Teddy Roosevelt and performers in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Shows. The nicest early frontier era black powder single action we have had in years. Price on request.
