Description:
U.S. Springfield Cadet Rifle 1879 Model .45-70 Springfield.  The breech block stamped US/MODEL/1873 (the left side of the M and right lower portion of the L are not visible and only a portion of the 3 in 1873 is visible, enough to see that it is a 3); The cadet rifle has a 29 1/2" barrel and stamped with V/P and eagle. The front sight is two piece with blade sight and the rear is a M1884 Buffington with graduations to 2000 yards.The upper barrel band has a gun sling swivel and a stacking swivel and the the two piece triggerguard has a gun sling swivel, both are stamped with a U; The ramrod has a non-cupped button tip and cleaning slot behind; Cocking the hammer shows the tumbler is a three click tumbler or three clicks to cock the hammer; The stock cartouches are not visible (possibly worn completely off as the stock shows considerable wear with lots of scratches and gouges and the stock has long wrist and short 9" comb; The bore is in good condition with good lands and grooves, although there is corrosion in a small area about five or six inches from the muzzle.
