Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: For sale, a beautiful set of dueling pistols by Richards of London. This set of duelers is as nice as they come, and they are unique in that they are much larger bore than most duelers of the time. The bore measures approximately .70 caliber or what would be called then "16 Bore". These pistols have twist damascus octagon barrels that are smoothbore and 9.5 inches in length. They are engraved on top with "Richards, London" and have a brass bead front sight. At the rear of the barrels they have a case hardened block that is engraved with silver bands on either side, and a notch style rear sight with an engraved case colored tang. They have captive ramrods and full length stocks. The locks are beautifully engraved with scroll engraving and feature a sliding hammer safety lock and dolphin head hammers. "Richards" is engraved on both of the locks. The locks work perfectly on both pistols and both hammers lock up tight in half and the full-cock positions. The trigger guards are engraved and have a high polish blue finish. All of the metal work on these pistols is 1st class and all of the pieces and parts are inlaid into the stocks perfectly with no gaps. The full length stocks on both the pistols are in excellent condition and feature finely checkered pistol grips and silver initial plates at the rear. The checkering is still crisp and sharp. There are no cracks or repairs to be found on either pistol. These Richard's dueling pistols are fitted in a fine mahogany case complete with period accoutremonts including: a "Sykes" marked powder and ball flask, a wooden cleaning rod/ball puller/ramrod, ebony handled screwdriver, ebony handled nipple wrench, a leather percussion cap pouch, and a round ball mold that is marked "WD" on one side and "No.14" on the other. The original case is lined in green felt and has brass hardware. The lid has a decorative brass plaque and the keyhole surround appears to be ivory. This is just an exceptional set of duelers in every aspect. This is a centerpiece type set to an antique arms collection. (An identical set in virtually every way except marked "Westley Richards" with an indentical case sold for 10,500 at James Julia's 2009 Fall Fine Firearms .)
