Description:
Light weight Grouse and Partridge guns were all the rage in the 1930's. Both Purdey and Dickson made a speciality of it but, although less well known, so did Westley Richards. For these they recommended their fixed lock actions, which could be build lighter than their droplocks. These are a pair of their Best Quality light weight guns that were built in 1934 (# 18461/2). They weigh a delightful 6 lbs 4 oz and have 26" barrels with Westley's typical under rib muzzle knob.

The guns retain a considerable amount of their original color on the actions and a beautiful old oil finish on their well figured stocks. The stocks measure 15" X 1 5/8" X 2 1/4" with a slight right cast. The correctly done leather pads are 1". The barrels were reblacked in London in 1995 when they were re-proofed for 2 3/4" chambers. The barrels all measure .738 right and left, which appears to be "as made". Both pairs are choked Right .010 and Left .014. Minimum wall thickness is 0.27, 0.29, 0.28, 0.29.

The pair is cased in a correct, period motor case with a canvas outer and a period Westley London label. The case and outer are in mint condition. The pair is priced at only $19,500.
