Rifle remains in this configuration and has the original sights as well. Bore in the nickel steel barrel is bright, shiny and excellent, a 9 out of 10. Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks and no extra holes. Buttstock is slightly shy at the tangs and most likely was lightly cleaned/sanded there at some point but has aged evenly with the rest of the stock. Action is tight. All metal surfaces except the buttplate show signs of a very old cold blue that has turned patina with age. Model 1886 short rifles are not common and this one is in a great caliber that you can shoot/hunt, just have a competent gunsmith check it over before shooting.
