Description:
Regrettably, I am selling my Christoph Funk Hammerless SxS 12 ga. Funk Doppelflinte Nr. 1a dated 11/28. November 1928. I have had this SxS gun for about 15 years.nths since being demobed from my O&G job.) Maker’s name only appears on the standing breech.
The gun is in very good condition with some minor flaws. Small barrel dent about 5 inches from the muzzle on the left barrel (very easy smoothing repair available), sliver chip on the edge of the slender forend. Case color on the receiver is still good as is some facing on the trigger guard. No engraving. A very nice field grade gun with excellent walnut buttstock and forend. Cheek piece butt as with most early German guns. Some slight dings and scratches to be expected for a Field gun that has hunted in Europe, Texas, Alaska, ….. and back again to Texas.
Slightly swamped rib is tapered from breach to muzzles. 29 ½ inch barrels are nice original blue and the barrels, though original 65mm chambers have been lengthened by Briley to 2 ¾. The gun barrels are tight on face with no play. I have only shot light target and light field loads in the gun, but it is robust for its svelte light weight of only about 6- 6 1/2 lbs. I am sure it will handle any appropriate load for the age of the gun.
Length of pull is 14 inches for the front trigger and 13 (*-) for the rear. Drop at the comb is 1 3/8” and heal is 2 1/8th. About a ¾ inch right cast to the butt from the straight line of the barrels. It is a quality piece from an excellent German maker.
