General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1947, .410 Gauge, 6lbs 1oz, Side by Side Serial Number: FWS8611 There were a total of only 2400 L.C. Smith Field Grade .410's made. This gun, serial number FWS8611 made in 1947 by Hunter Arms Co., is a very high condition, factory original gun. Most of the .410's being offered for sale are well worn, have short stocks, butt pads, etc. that make them more common. A gun like this one is unique and certainly one of the better examples remaining on the planet. Vintage American double shotguns are highly sought after, being great financial assets that grow in value as you enjoy their use for fowl and clays. Those choosing the small bore guns as their passion choose from a minute pool of guns, as the .410 bore is a low production gun that is hard to find in high original condition. In fact, of the prominent American makers, only Parker, Ithaca, and L.C. Smith made their shotguns in the diminutive .410. Most are aware that the Parker fetches well over the $20,000 mark, and for some reason the Ithaca has a smaller following. That leaves the L.C. Smith, America's only commercially successful sidelock action available in the .410 bore, as the most desirable and affordable of the American small bores. The best guns for your collection and for investment are always going to be unaltered, high condition guns representing the best of its kind. There is always a buyer for high condition, low production .410 American doubles. With over 95% bold, vivid factory case color, and 95% factory original barrel blue, 98% factory trigger guard blue, excellent factory checkering, and all original factory wood (butt stock finish was cleaned up behind the pistol grip checkering) this great little Elsie sure qualifies as an investment quality firearm.
