Description:
L.C. Smith Ideal Grade 20ga Side-by-Side
30" BARRELS, EJECTORS, 97% CASE COLOR

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1927, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 6oz, SxS
Serial Number: FWE98641

The Ideal Grade L.C. Smith is the first level of a "graded" Elsie, with open foliate engraving pattern, nicer wood and checkering than the Field grade, and the banjo style forend latch rather than a snap-on forend.  They made around 3659 Ideal Grades in 20ga., so it is not a "rare" gun.  However, only 426 were made with the long, graceful 30" barrels, and only 1/2, or about 210 total of those were made with ejectors.  So this combination is a very hard gun to find.  Add to the low production numbers the HIGH, FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION AND DESIRABLE FEATURES AND LIGHT WEIGHT and you have an incredible find in the vintage gun world.  Some Elsies have a delicate balance making you believe they are true lightweight guns.  Weighing 6lbs 6oz. and balanced 3/8" ahead of the hinge pin, I was surprised when I put her on the scale.  I would have guessed 6lbs. she felt so perfect in hand, not at all barrel heavy.  In 1927 it was made with more care than some of the later guns that felt so clunky with the tall rib.  The case color is 97% and vivid, the screws are near perfect, and the wood to metal fit is superb, with no cracks or splits at the apex of the locks.  The 30" barrels have 98% factory blue, excellent bores, no dings or dents, choked F/F and have 2 1/2" chambers from the factory.  The barrel breeches still retain the factory jewelling!   Our in house gunsmiths can alter chokes, lengthen chambers, bend stocks, add pads...all within 2 weeks of purchase.  For the shooter/collector, with well timed ejectors, perfect mechanics, and superb original condition overall, this little Elsie will be a joy to carry afield after upland birds or crushing clays, all the while increasing in value as you enjoy its use.  The L.C. Smith values have been escalating strongly in the last several years, and this is a very desirable configuration with superb condition.  Don't miss out on this one!  Thanks for looking!
