Description:
This is a walnut stocked dummy musket measuring 49" long overall, with a spring-plunger, blunt-ended telescopic “bayonet" measuring 17" in length. These interesting items were an early WW1 training device, sometimes with a cupped metal handguard, and were made by various contractors like Greener, Westley Richards, and Webley & Scott. This example is marked “N^Z/161" on the heavy iron collar ahead of the wrist, and the metal retains 95-97% of the original blue finish with some minor fading and silvering along some of the high edges and projections. The walnut stock is in fine shape and has some scattered small handling marks and blemishes in the original military oil finish. The spring plunger is still quite firm, and the mechanism functions very well. This is a hard to find item for the British or military collector, is in excellent condition, and would make a great display piece too.
