Description:
Serial #4175a. This is a standard combat bayonet that measures 15 1/8” overall, with a 9 7/8” straight, single-edged blade having wide, single fullers. The blade retains 85-90% of the original blue finish with date and maker code “41 ddl” on the ricasso obverse (Renscheider Hobelmesserfabrik, Renscheid, Germany). There are small spots of freckling along either side of the blade, as well as some finish loss at the tip from scabbard contact. The hilt has dark brown, grooved, phenolic resin grips with light surface scuffs and wear on both panels. The pommel, small guard, and steel scabbard have similar spots of brown freckling and pinprick pitting throughout, and the black leather frog has numerous minor surface scuffs and crazing, but is still intact and fully serviceable. This is a nice, early war Kar.98k bayonet overall.
