We have test fired this rifle and the ring does not seem to affect the accuracy. This 1918 built carbine features a 3/4 magazine and shotgun butstock with Whelen flutes. Receiver has no saddle ring. Barrel and mag tube retain about 80% blue with scattered specks of oxidation staining and several patches of light pitting. receiver shows 60% blue, worn to silver on bottom, with flaking evident on sides. Lever has a nice dark patina with a couple small patches of pitting on loop. Wood has light dings and scratches from use with a tiny 1/2 inch grain crack on left rear of forearm. As far as the information that we have an "Eastern Carbine" is any carbine built without a saddle ring in the period of time that the saddle ring was standard up until approx. 1932. A beautiful Eastern carbine once owned by our late friend Mr Eldon Owens of New Hampshire can be seen on the rarewinchesters site. A very attractive and scarce carbine.
