Colt U.S. Mdl. 1873, SAA, KOPEC GOLD SEAL LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY Cal..45, Ser. 1134XX..

Unfired, yes, unfired. That's what John Kopec, the acknowledged authority of Colt Single Action Army pistols declares. Check out the attached letter from Mr. Kopec. He bequeathed his highly coveted “GOLD SEAL” to his letter of authenticity to this firearm.

According to the attached Colt factory letter, the gun was delivered to the Government inspector in 1884. That makes it almost 133 years old. Somehow in all of this time, it has never been fired.

It appears that this gun was delivered to the Springfield Arsenal in December of 1884. It was stored, but never issued to the army. After a period of time it was sent in a lot of about 70 guns to the New Jersey National Guard. This gun is indeed properly stamped NJ and is in the proper serial range for that shipment..

The NJ National Guard eventually returned the guns to the Springfield Armory where they sat until shortly before WWI . They were then sold to the general public as is documented in Mr. Kopec's letter.

This particular gun came to us from an estate that discovered it secreted in the family house they had decided to sell. The condition is unreal. Imagine how many people had access to this gun in 133 years and it remained UNFIRED. What are the odds of that ever happening?

There is some very slight thinning of the blue on the barrel, top strap  and silvering on the sharp edges of the cylinder. All from handling and holster wear. The case colored frame is about 95+%. The fire blued screws are super bright and totally un-marred. There is also a very slight cylinder turn ring. That's really about it.

There are no rust spots, pits, pinpricks rub marks or scratches anywhere. The walnut grips are almost flawless and stamped, 1884. The left side has the inspector's stamp "FH" in an oval and the right side is stamped CFH in an oblong cartouche, both for Capt. Frank Heath.

The frame, barrel and cylinder are sub inspector stamped D.F.C. for David F. Clark.

The barrel is correctly stamped NJ for the New Jersey National Guard. The bottom of the grips do have some small dents that appear to be from tack heads.

All numbers match. The chambers still have all of the original factory blue. The barrel is factory new. The bore is mirror bright with razor sharp rifling and also retained about 100% of the original factory blue. Mr. Kopec notes in his letter that the gun is indeed "unfired".

It would be almost impossible to find a nicer example of the U.S. Army's first cartridge revolver outside of a museum.

A centerpiece with great bragging rights for the really serious Colt collector.......$44,950.
