Description:
Parker VH 20 gauge, modified and full, 28" barrels. 100% original, including iconic grip cap and dog’s head butt plate. It’s (almost) been living in a climate-controlled time capsule since 1969. Here’s what I know about it:

This Parker, s/n 175565, was crafted in 1917. It has been in my family since 1964, when it was purchased by my uncle Dub, an avid Parker fan, skeet shooter and wing-shooter. I remember when he got it; I was in grade school at the time. I was allowed to hold it, “by the wood,” I was told, since he didn’t want to have to wipe my kid fingerprints off the metal. I held it by the stocks, but he wiped it down anyway. Since my Uncle kept records as meticulously as he maintained his guns, I can tell you this from his typewritten record detail: It was purchased from Nicholas Antonoff in 1964, probably in Dallas or nearby, since that was where my uncle lived. He used it on a few hunts in the mid-to-late 1960’s, and then, due to life changes, he gave up shooting entirely. Still, he kept his guns well-maintained until the late 1980’s, when his health dictated that it and his other guns came to live in my father’s climate-controlled gun safe, a few hours away. Since my father was mostly a deer and hog hunter, the only use this gun saw there was to be passed around the room at Christmas time for family and friends to admire.

I tell that story to say that though this gun is almost a hundred years old, it has not been fired or even been in the field at all since the 1960’s. The description in his 1964 record says that the action, barrels and stock are in “very good,” condition, and that the bore is “excellent.” Experts at my local gun shop called it 70-75%, but judge for yourself, as I have taken very clear photos from every angle. As for the bores, they look shiny and smooth. An additional note in my uncle’s record says, “completely original; slim forearm.”

I dry-fired the gun (with snap caps): Lock is solid, safety is solid; triggers are crisp, and auto-safety returns to safe on opening.
