Description:
This is one of the 800 Cavalry model Colts that were returned to Colt in 1895 to be refurbished for the state of New York. All numbers were kept matching and the barrels were not shortened. Colt even added the first two digits of the serial number to the barrel and cylinder, which originally had only the last four. Their hammers were refinished in a bright, fire blue rather than color case hardened. This is one of the best examples we have seen. It retains 90% original blue and 50% case colors as refurbished. As most of these saw service in the Spanish American War in the late 1890's and early 1900's, this condition is remarkable. It is perfect mechanically and has an excellent bore. Many of this group were again redone and had their barrels shortened to 5 1/2 inches at the turn of the Century, so this is one of a very small group to survive in this configuration and condition.
