Description:
This is a very good example of the U.S. Cavalry Models that were issued to the State of Virginia in 1874 and subsequently sold by the state gonernor to a Mr. Boker. Some were sold back to the Colt Company, redone with a nickel finish and resold on the open market. Others were sold by Mr. Boker himself, after being nickel plated. Because this gun does not bear the commercial .45 CAL. designation stamped on the trigger guard, it is probably one of the latter. The serial number #12428 falls within the known serial range of the Virginia guns and a Letter of Authentication from Mr. John A. Kopec accompanies the gun. The gun shows wear, but remains in very good condition. All numbers are matching and all parts original, including the one piece wood grips with a partial visible O.W. Ainsworth cartouche. The gun retains approximately 85 to 90% of the 1895 finish and is mechanically sound. Mr. Kopec states that in his opinion, it is 100% authentic in every respect, and a remarkable revolver of its type.
