Lettered RAC INSP Antique Colt ARTILLERY Revolver

SHIPPED to MANILA During Philippine-American War!

Here we present an antique 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver Artillery Model, made in 1891. The Colt Single Action Army is a worldwide icon of the United States of America and the Western Frontier. Wielded by both the worst of men and the best, the famous Single Action Army is also well-known as the Peacemaker.

The Artillery or Springfield Armory Model of the SAA is a period (1895-1903) armory or factory refinished gun to extend U.S. military service. Only about 17,000 of these refurbished guns were completed. In all but the rarest variant of the already rare Artillery Model, the serial numbers will be mixed.  Many of these saw action in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War.

This specimen is one of those examples that was sent back to Colt’s Manufacturing Company for refurbishing and it is R.A.C. (Rinaldo A. Carr) inspected. It was subsequently shipped out to the Commanding Officer in Manila Philippines in 1901. This was during the Philippine-American War. This conflict was a result of the U.S. taking “possession” of the former Spanish colony after the Spanish-American War.  This was a long and gruesome guerilla war that quickly shattered America’s romantic views of war, especially promulgated by Theodore Roosevelt.

The overall condition is very good. About 60% of the original blue finish remains. The markings in the steel are all clear and visible. The grips still show the original U.S. inspector cartouches. The walnut grip has two partial cracks on the right side. The bore and action are in fine condition.

This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 5-1/2 inches in length.

Caliber: .45 Colt

Bore is in fine condition and shiny. The firearm is in fine working order.

Overall condition as seen in photos.

Here is an opportunity to own a Colt that participated in the taming of the West and then traveled to the Philippines to be used in that conflict.
