Description:
This gun, serial number 112127, was manufactured in 1885, and shipped to Montgomery Wards, Chicago, IL., with a 4 3/4 inch barrel and one piece wood grips. Colt had begun offering two piece gutta percha grips, with embossed eagle, in 1882, but they did not become the standard until 1889. Because shorter barrels did not become popular until the early 1890's, it is very difficult to find this combination of wood grips and short barrel on this early a Single Action. This gun also has matching serial numbered cylinder and barrel which is seldom found after the 100,000 range. The gun is in very good, original condition/finish, with traces of blue, a tight action, and a fair bore. All parts appear to be original to date of manufacture. A factory letter accompanies the gun.
