Description:
For sale is a military issue Colt 1911A1. This firearm offers the collector the opportunity to own a unique piece of history. This pistol was issued to Dan Chandler in WWII. Chandler was assigned to the USS Hornet as gun captain of the 1.1 battery located on the bow of the ship. On October 26, 1942 the USS Hornet was sunk in the battle of Santa Cruz. Dan carried this weapon when the ship was abandoned. The pistol includes documentation,belt, holster, mag pouch and two additional magazines. Thebelt and holster are subsequent reissues to Dan Chandler following the sinking of the Hornet and are stamped 1943.
The pistol is in good overall condition. with hard plastic grips, lanyard loop and blue finish. Wear to finish noted on front strap and hard edges. Typical scratches noted on frame below takedown pin. Light incidental scratches to frame and slide noted as this was a duty weapon. Bore is clean with good rifling. Serial 7177xx.
