SCARCE RHODE ISLAND PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE BY GEORGE P. FOSTER OF BRISTOL, RH, CIRCA 1850. 50” o/a with 34” octagon .42 cal. deeply rifled barrel signed on top flat “GEO. P. FOSTER BRISTOL”. Original warranted lock with light engraving stamped “C.C. & L. CINCINNATI”. Tiger maple stock with pewter forend cap and German silver engraved butt plate and patch box. Nicely articulated steel trigger guard and double set triggers. Excellent overall with metal a medium grey original patina and the stock with the original finish. Triggers in perfect working order and excellent bore. Original hickory ramrod. Foster later partnered with Ambrose Burnside in development of Burnside’s rifles and carbines. Well known Rhode Island maker.
