CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET. .58 caliber smoothbore 40” barrel with Springfield Armory “V/P/EAGLEHEAD” proofs at the left breech. Lock plate stamped “U.S. SPRINGFIELD/1864” with the Federal Eagle stamp beneath the bolster. Butt plate tang with large “U.S.” stamp. Stock with two U.S. Govt. Inspectors cartouches. Very good and all original Civil War parts except the ramrod which is a correct, nicely aged Lock plate a War period replacement. Metal with moderate wear and excellent markings. Stock nicely refinished. Lock in perfect working order and very good bore. Very nice looking example and modestly priced.
