Description:

19th Cent. Antique COLT New Line .22 CCW Revolver

QUALITY 1870s HIDEOUT Alternative to SUICIDE SPEC.

Here we present an antique Colt New Line .22 Pocket Revolver, made in 1876 in Hartford, Connecticut. Colt’s New Line of products included solid-frame, spur trigger revolvers of various calibers ranging from .22 to .41. They were introduced in 1873, shortly after the Smith & Wesson held Rollin White Patent expired, opening the floodgates to a hungry market that had been dying to fully implement metallic cartridge firearms loaded into a totally bored through cylinder—from 1857 to 1869 S&W had exclusivity with these concepts and rightfully dominated the marketplace. The idea was to provide the commercial market with a variety of very small and concealable firearms. Not everyone was a cowboy and carried Colt’s Single Action Army. Many civilians may not have carried if not for something that they could stick in their pocket, purse or muff, much like today. The New Line was relatively successful for a time, but production of all but one of the variants was shut down by about 1877 due to very stiff competition from a plethora of companies making similar but cheaper versions known today as “Suicide Specials”. Nevertheless, Colt’s New Line was the quality alternative for one who was serious about their self-defense in 19th Century America.

This specimen offers 7 shots of .22 rimfire. It has a brass frame with a rugged nickel plate finish. The left side of the barrel is acid etched to read “COLT NEW 22”. Grips are of rosewood.

The overall condition is fine. The nickel finish is 90% present. The markings are clear and legible. The rosewood grips are in very good condition. The bore and chambers are in very good condition and the action is fine.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-1/4 inches in length.

Caliber: .22 rimfire

Bore is in very good condition and the revolver is in fine working order.

Overall condition as seen in photos.

Remember the heritage of American civilian conceal and carry with this 19th Century Colt New Line Pocket Revolver!
