Description:
SOLD...Antique 1886 Winchester. Here is another very nice and honest 1886 Winchester I picked up.. It has the standard 26" octagon barrel. It is in the very sought after 45-90 caliber. S/N 36461 and made in 1889. The bore is very good. Shows strong rifling all the way through with just some minor roughness but no big pits or craters and no rings or bulges. It shoots great. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. It still retains the original front and rear sights. Has the sought after ladder style rear sight but the numbers for the yardedge are worn off. Excellent markings on the gun. The metal is nice and smooth medium brown patina with no pitting. Has traces of case colors on the bottom tang behind the trigger Still shows the deep machining marks on the receiver and has never been cleaned on or messed with. All the screw heads are clean and sharp and not burred up. The wood is very nice as well. The forearm has no splits or cracks and fits full and tight to the metal. Just a couple honest and normal handling dings and scratches and looks like some varnish has been applied sometime in the past. The butt stock is very nice with a little bit of fancy grain. It has darkened a bit on the right side wrist area as can be seen in the photos from oil and sweat and could be lightly cleaned if so desired to bring out the grain more but I am not touching it. It fits very full and tight to all the metal and has never been sanded on or messed with.[see photos} I took some photos of the butt stock in direct sunlight to show the grain a little better.. Looks like quit a bit of original varnish remains. NO splits or cracks and just the same honest handling dings and scratches. This is a very nice ole 86 in the the very sought after caliber with octagon barrel. Does not show any abuse or bad spots but just normal and honest use. Getting harder to find these that are nice and honest at reasonable prices that are not all beat up with rough wood and poor bores. Shop and compare the prices of these 86's in this caliber and configuration and then call me !!!.. This one has a lot going for it. Don't miss it !!!
