Description:
This German Army Luger Pistole Model 1908 was made in 1940 at the Mauser Oberndorf factory (code S/42). The Luger pistol is a toggle-locked recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol. The design was patented by Georg J. Luger in 1898 and produced by German arms manufacturer Deutsch Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) starting in 1900 with other manufacturers such as W+F Bern, Kreghoff, Simson, Mauser, and Vickers.  It was an evolution of the 1893 Hugo Borchardt- designed C-93. The first Parabellum pistol was adopted by the Swiss army in May 1900. In German Army Service, it was succeeded and partly replaced by the Walther P 38 in caliber 9x19mm Parabellum. The P08 Luger is well known from its use by the Germans during World War I and World War II, along with the interwar Weimar Rebublic and the postwar East German Volkspolizei. Although the P08 was introduced in 7.65mm Parabellum, it is notable for being the pistol for which the 9x19mm Parabellum (also known as the 9x19mm Luger) cartridge was developed. Because of its association with Nazi Germany, the pistol has been used in fictional works by many villainous characters over the past several decades.

All numbers match on this pistol except for the magazines. It was made in 1940 by Mauser and has Nazi proofs. This Luger has no pits or rust and the original bluing is about 85-92% the result of holster wear, and the grip bluing is thinning from use during WW 2 prior to being "liberated" by a 3rd Army GI returning to the US.  The holster was made in Dresden in 1938 by Gebruder Kline and is in excellent condition as is the take down tool housed in the holster.

This Luger is a fine original example of a well preserved World War 2 weapon and would make a fine addition to any collection of Nazi arms.
