Description:
SALE PENDING. We have here what appears to be an original Colt 1851 Navy .36 caliber percussion revolver. It has a 4 inch barrel (appears original) and the small round style trigger guard, which is inconsistent with the serial number range for a 4th model. Serial number is 133887. These things lead me to believe this was a special order revolver. It came from an estate, has no provenance, and according to Colt it will not "letter" due to records loss. Condition is poor with oxidation and pitting over much of the finish. It was "cleaned" too agressively at some point and lost what original finish there was. Serial numbers are clear and match on the visible components (I did not check the cylinder wedge). Mainspring is broken and the action needs substantial work. Rifling is strong and bore is dark. Loading lever latch keeper is missing. Screws are rough. Grips are wood and in poor condition. All that said I do think this piece could be restored by a specialist such as Doug Turnbull, but I make no warranties or promises at all on this revolver. It would make a nice desk ornament or discussion piece for sure. Personal and bank checks, and money orders accepted. Email me with your questions and I will do my best. Shipping and insurance are $25.
