Large Bore 1840s EUROPEAN Antique Pocket Pistol
Engraved HIDEOUT Carry Gun with Folding Trigger
Here we present an antique European Percussion Folding Trigger Pistol, made circa 1840s Europe, likely France. This pistol was designed for very close quarters self-defense, and was very much along the same lines as the Henry Deringer pistol in America.
This pistol features a folding trigger, which deploys as the trigger is cocked, and a round turn-off barrel, making loading a larger ball easier than ramming one down the muzzle. This latter feature also negated the use of a ramrod and helped create a better gas seal, making the short barrel and single shot as efficient and effective as possible. The frame and barrel are neatly engraved.
The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have a dark patina. The markings are clear and legible. The turn-off barrel has fused with the frame over time, but might move if treated with light oil. The bore is very good. The action is excellent.
