Payment Types Accepted: Money Order About Us: Private Seller Description: S&W first produced the second and third Model 3 Russian types (Cal. 44 Russian) in early to mid 1870's for the Russian government. A civilian version was offered until 1915. A small quantity of the S&W Model 3 was purchased by the Mexican Government from a private dealer. They decided to buy more but not from S&W but from Spain and Belgium where several arms makers were offering unauthorized copies for less money. These copies are marked with the initials RM (Republica Mexicana) and with a sun burst above the initials located on the left side of the extractor housing. The back of the cylinder on this gun has a serial number, what looks like a proof mark and probably an inspectors mark (star H). The butt has a serial number. The trigger and the side plate also contain serial numbers, visible with the plate removed. The grips are original and contained the initials HP in the grip’s circle The initials were for H. Pieper of Liege, Belgium, the manufacturer of the gun. Unfortunately the initials have worn away having been made of an early plastic. The finger hook on the trigger guard was a feature of the S&W Model 3 Russian types 2 and 3. Many S&W’s Russian models and their copies can be found today with their finger hooks filed off. A major deviation from both the S&W originals and the Spanish copies is the extractor housing under the barrel. It is more than two inches shorter on this H. Pieper copy. The original chrome finish is mostly gone except for an area around the trigger guard and on the back strap below the trigger. I bought this revolver in the early 1960's in Mexico City. If you want a S&W Model 3 but reluctant to make the investment required this is your chance to get the next best thing. A genuine antique S&W model 3 Russian look-a- like, having existed since the 1880's and with it’s own hidden history with the Mexican Army and, more than likely, the Mexican revolution of 1910. Buy this aged beauty for only $400. Note: Don’t buy this gun to shoot. It is at least 130 years old and made of soft steel and not safe to shoot in its present condition. For shooting, buy a modern reproduction instead. SOLD - Waiting for delivery and three day inspection to expire. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: H.
