Beautiful 1880 vintage Colt Model 1878 Hammer Double Barrel Shotgun, "THE CLUB GUN". According to the copy of the factory letter that comes with the gun, it has 30 inch barrels, Grade #6 Configuration, has $1.75 of engraving, is blue finished, and chambered 12 gauge. Also, according to the factory letter, this gun is a "club" piece, of which only 146 are recorded for the Model 1878. The gun is as described and the 30 inch barrels have a nice looking damascus pattern on them, the frame retains about 30% of its original color case-hardened finish, and the side-plates retain about 30% of their original color case-hardened finish. The trigger guard has lost most of its blue finish, turning a silver grey patina. The bores are bright, but spotty, and the action functions perfectly, with a tight lock-up. The walnut forearm is in very good condition, with assorted handling marks and 2 very small chipped off pieces on the left side and another very small chipped off piece on the right side. The round knob pistol grip walnut stock is also checkered and is in fine condition, again with assorted handling marks, but no cracks or chips. The checkered black hard rubber butt-plate is stamped "THE CLUB GUN" and is in very good condition, with many ding at the top and a few very minor scratches, no cracks or chips.
