Description:
This is an original Springfield 1903 chambered for 30-06. It is believed to be built in 1918 and refurbished at the Philippine Ordnance Depot in 1928. It has a 24” blued barrel in good condition. The barrel is marked “SA / 9-28” behind the standard blade front sight. The bore is rough but still has it’s rifling. The barrel band (marked “U”) and bayonet lug (marked “H”) are also in good condition with no pitting or dents. The rear sight has been removed.
The receiver is in decent condition. The finish is even and undamaged by scratches or corrosion, but it has been drilled and tapped for a peep sight. The bolt is developing a patina and is also undamaged by corrosion. “C14” is stamped under the bolt handle. The stock reinforcing bolt is missing.
The walnut stock is also in fair condition. There are dents and scratches throughout but no cut marks. A notch has been cut out of the right side under the part of the receiver that was drilled and tapped. There are two “P” cartouches behind the trigger guard, one circled, one uncircled. The stock has two overlapping cartouches on the left side above the trigger guard; “POD” in a box and “AWL” in an open box. Stock has two sling swivels, a stacking swivel, and a buttplate with a trap. Comes with original 1943 sling.
