Description:
#35277, Ansley H. Fox CE Grade 12 Bore Shipped from Savage Arms Corp., Utica, N.Y. in 1941: The lettered gun with 26" ejector barrels with rib extension third bite at .724 .007 & .012" (Imp.Cyl. & Skt.II), 2 3/4" chambers, Lettered single selective trigger, Splinter forend with a Deeley & Edge forend release, Lettered straight stock at 14 5/16 x 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" over a Lettered 1" Hawkins recoil pad, 7 lbs. 8 oz., 80% coverage of typical "C" Grade engraving that remains as sharp as the day it was cut, 1 1/2" of engraving on the barrels at the breech, The barrels have 90% original factory blue, It retains 80% original case colors, The original finish on the butt and forend are at an absolute 78-80%, The checkering remaining at 90% including the checkering on the flats back of the action body; The bores are excellent plus, shiny and bright without any pits or dings, This is an honest gun. There was a 1 1/8" piece of wood missing on the right side at the head of the stock just below the top lever and our very capable shop repaired it professionally. Other than that this piece is totally original including the straight stock, the dimensions, the single trigger and the recoil pad. The piece was lettered in 1988 and no changes to the gun since that time. There are a lot of over used and screwed around Fox guns on the market but this is one flat out nice piece. /////////////////// //////////////// It was lettered by Roe S. Clark in 1988 with all of the above specifications. In 1941 this CE Grade cost $171.00, the single trigger $27.50 and the recoil pad was $4.60 for a grand total of $203.10. The records mention an earlier gun bought by a Mr. H. A. Jackson and we presume he bought this gun #35277 as a Mr. Jackson gifted this very gun to a gentleman that used it for Quail hunting in Southern Illinois. This gentleman used it until the early 1950's and we are told it hasn't been used much since then. Mr. Jackson was a Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.
