Description:
This is an early model 17 .. I believe it was made   between 1931 and1940. The  grips  are in 99% condition. They are diamond checkered walnut with the S & W medallions set at the top of each grip. The pistol is sensitive to inexpensive ammo. It demands quality stuff. . It  retains 70-80%  of the blue finish There are some scratches on both sides of the frame and some light scratches on the barrel.. The bore is bright, rifling sharp and action works as designed. Case coloring is still strong on the trigger and hammer. There is a partridge front sight with an adjustable rear sight. The gun serial number is stamped on the inside of the grips and on the bottom of the grip butt. . It holds 6  .22 cal. LR  rounds and empties are ejected  by the hand ejector located in front of the cylinder. S & W  started stamping model numbers on the cylinder yoke in 1957. That was not done on this pistol which means it was certainly made prior to 1957. The patent dates on the barrel  are: Feb  6,. '06,  Sept. 4, '09, and Dec. 29, '14.

Transfers must go through an FFL holder.
