Safety Speed Holster out of Montebello California. They were top line makers, starting business about 1942 in Los Angeles, California. Best known for their CLAM SHELL holsters.
This is a VINTAGE, quality TRUE CLAMSHELL Gun Holster.
This clamshell design is no longer seen or used; this style holster was actually developed in the 1920's and saw resurgence in the 1970's (Thanks, ADAM-12 Pete Malloy & partner). For a time this was THE after market department authorized holster for the LAPD and other California Police agencies. It has become a collectible holster, and is a unique part of the history of holster-making.
This holster probably dates back to the early 1970s period or earlier, based on the design.The clamshell design uses a hard framework with a mechanical release in the trigger guard, which when pushed, springs the holster open mechanically and the gun is right there in your hand ready to come on target. Super fast for its time and even now, as there is no wasted movement in the draw and target acquisition is rapid. Function and looks as NEW.
