Documented Rare U.S. Revenue Cutter Service Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver with Factory Letter...
The included factory letter states that this revolver was "shipped to the U.S. government on June 27, 1890". This revolver is listed by serial number in Supica and Nahas' book STANDARD CATALOG OF SMITH & WESSON (page 106) as being shipped to the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service.   ( Original 6 inch barrel )
The Revenue Cutter Service purchased approximately 140 Smith & Wesson No. 3   .44  caliber revolvers between 1890 and 1894....
Twelve revolvers were issued to each Revenue Cutter. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line S&W address/patent dates. The serial number is found on the butt.   Pinned blade front sight and notch rear sight on the barrel latch.  Original blue finish,  and fitted with Original checkered walnut grips..  Mechanically Excellent.    Antique 1890
