This is an interesting and well-done non-factory “Belly Gun” w/o any ejector system and no front sight. This very likely was a very handy “quick-to-grab” under the counter gun of some banker or storekeeper, or perhaps the short-range hide-away shoulder holster gun of a gambler or lawman. VG-Fine bore, about a 7-8 on a scale of 10 with just minor lead build-up and minor wear, no bad spots. Fine tight smooth action with all the clicks on the hammer and a crisp lock-up, and probably is a real handfull of lightning with having a mighty nasty recoil with a barrel this short! The metal is smooth and very good with no appreciable pitting on the right side, but has some freckle pitting and roughness on the left side, probably due to long storage in a leather shoulder holster, or laying on the left side under a counter. The topstrap sighting groove has been filled and smoothed off with either lead or solder, reason unknown. The patent markings are fair to good being partially obscured by the forementioned left side pitting, the two-line barrel address and caliber markings are both very good, as are the matching serial numbers. Overall, just an even thin grey-brown over most of the surface and standard hard rubber grips, which have about 80% wear to the checking but still have a very handsome appearance. A very decent, colorful, and VERY short-barreled “Belly-Buster” Colt. VG $1995 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
