#4951 Colt S/A, 5-1/2”x45COLT, 127XXX range (1888), VG+ bore, about a 7+ on a scale of 10 with some minor lead build-up and wear, no bad spots and looking very shootable. VG tight smooth action with all the clicks on the hammer and a crisp lock-up. The exterior retains 99.9% of an old nickel refinish and the metal and markings show medium buffing overall which has severely weakened the barrel address and virtually obliterated the patent dates. As is common in such cases, the deeper stamped serial numbers are still good. Very desirable “Eagle” hard rubber grips are reproductions, but are the correct style of grips for this serial range. And being near new, they match the condition of the revolver with the entire gun looking to have almost no wear at all. The metal is smooth, the finish is a reasonably decent job of refinishing, and so this should be a good original First Generation 1880s Colt for collecting as well as shooting …after being “blessed” by a competent gunsmith and proper light black powder loads being used. It’s getting pretty difficult to find any pre-1890 vintage Colt Single Action at under $2500, so this should be a decent buy at $2250
