FINE BRITISH FLINTLOCK BRASS BBL.TRADE PISTOL 17-25
Fine high quality British Flintlock Brass Bbl. Coat or trade Pistol, c. 1770’s 8”Part Octagonal, part round .70 cal. Brass Barrel with a cannon mouth at end of barrel, Very unusual, I have not seen this cannon mouth configuration on this type of flintlock. Trigger guard is engraved with a pineapple on front and a floral pattern on bow, brass ramrod pipes, Brass Barrel w/ (2) English proofs and “LONDON” engraved on barrel with some engraving on barrel tang. Metal is very clean with almost no corrosion. Wood very good a few small dents, dings, hairline cracks, one small chip behind lock etc., Lock is marked “Ketland” in script, with some floral engraving on lock, tang, Acorn Finial on trigger guard; gun is 14” overall length. In good working order, locks up on full and half cock. A very nice high quality Brass Barrel example probably made as a gentleman’s coat pistol or for trade, but that could have seen service with a British officer during the American Revolutionary War period.
