Description:
Scarce Pre 64 Winchester 70 SG in .257 Roberts in the even scarcer "transition" configuration seen only on a small number of rifles made between pre and post WWII models. 24" Barrel. S/N 100*** with matching bolt Mfg. 1948. This one retains the pre war "clover leaf" shaped tang, special transition "clam shell" safety, with all other features, such as the smooth topped, factory drilled rear receiver bridge being post war style, which continued until the end of production. The rifle has seen some use but remains in very good unaltered condition. Has all of the correct components including Redfield gold bead front sight, SG swivels, factory inletted Lyman 48WJS receiver sight, etc. Bluing on barreled action is at least 95% or better, with Bluing in higher wear areas averaging about 90%. The nicely figured wood shows numerous light use marks and scrapes, but no cracks or deep gouges, and no alteration to stock length or barrel channel, rated about 85% or better. This rifle is 100% original and would be a great candidate for shooter, intermediate collection, or full restoration if so desired.
