Description:
For sale, an all matching American Civil War production Colt 1860 Army revolver serial number 90598, that has survived in excellent overall condition.  This example has been Company marked from it's military issue on the backstrap behind the hammer "Co. B".  The barrel retains most of it's original military blue finish, and the frame, rammer, and hammer are color case hardened.  The grips have nice clear and legible inspector's cartouches on both sides, and have no damage except for an "+" carved into the bottom of the right panel which is pictured.  The naval engagement scene on the cylinder is nearly perfect and the nipples are all clean and undamaged.  Even more remarkable is that all six safety pins on the back of the cylinder are completely intact.  Those are typically the first thing that goes.  As you can see in the pictures, all the screws heads are nice and clean, with the protected inset screws still showing the original factory bright blue finish.  The bore on this 1860 Army is nice and bright and shows only some very minor corrosion.  The rifling is in excellent shape with nice distinct lands and grooves.  All markings are clear and distinct on this revolver and the action is crisp.  A very nice military contract Colt, probably delivered to the Government in late 1863, thus making it extremely likely to have seen combat in the Civil War.  This is truly a piece of American history and would be a great addition to any gun, military, or Colt collection.
