Description:
Colt 1877 "Lightning" Medium Frame Carbine - Cal. .44 - 20" Bbl - SN 78138 (1895). Bore is VG+ to near excellent - bright with sharp rifling but shows some mild roughness - action is excellent with perfect feeding, extraction, and ejection. Metal is about excellent overall with some very light surface rust in a few spots on the upper barrel, band, and magazine tube and on the steel buttplate and a light pit on the receiver - sharp markings and rampant colt logo. Barrel and magazine tube retain about 80%+ blue with thinning - receiver about 70% blue with mild thinning - trigger guard and slide extension about 40% blue with the balance drifted to a gray patina. Wood is excellent and undamaged with no splits, gouges, etc. and shows only minor scuffs and dings from normal handling, but shows a tiny spot on lower butt where there may have been a swivel long ago - retains about 85% + finish. A very crisp and all original early medium frame Colt "Lightning" in the scarce carbine version and the desirable .44 caliber - an outstanding collectible and investment item.
