*** SOLD *** This beautiful 12 bore hammer pigeon gun from the well respected gunmaker, J. D. Dougall, is a joy to behold with its fantastic condition and highly figured 31” nitro Damascus barrels. Stocked in a gorgeous piece of walnut with Prince of Wales grip and splinter forearm. The stock has recently been refinished and re-checkered. Unique checkering pattern on butt plate along with engraved steel heel and toe plates make the stock really special. Serial number 3804 made circa 1881. It weighs 8lb 7oz. *** The bar action is highly engraved and operated by a toplever. The engraving on the fences is particularly attractive. The gun is equipped with rebounding hammers that lie below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked. The action can be opened when the hammers are cocked. *** The 31” nitro barrels are made of highly figured Damascus, have recently been reproofed for 2-3/4”(70mm) cartridges, and are equipped with extractors. The bores are shiny with no pitting. The wide solid pigeon style rib is engraved with the following inscription: “J.D. Dougall. Gun & Rifle Manufacturer to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales 59 St. James Street. London”. The left barrel is bored 0.734 with a constriction of 0.022 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The right barrel is bored 0.734 and has a constriction of 0.018 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. *** The stock may be a recent restock but if so, it was professionally done. Figure and finish are superb with only a few small handling marks. The checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 15-1/8” by 1-5/8” by 2-1/2”. Neutral cast.
