Description:
ON HOLD! This is a nice example of a War-Time production Colt Model 1851 Revolver.  The Serial Number is in the 118,549 range which dates its production to very early 1862 and close to the passing of the inventor Samuel Colt. Almost every Colt Navy built in this timeframe is going to War, and was especially popular with Union Cavalry Units.  The serial number 118,547, just two digits from this one, is listed in the National Archives in Washington DC as having been issued to a soldier in Company B of the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry which served mainly in Arkansas and later New Orleans.  This particular example is well above average for a Civil War Colt and grades to NRA Antique Very Good.  It has 100% ALL MATCHING Numbers.  See Photos.  The frame still retains 35% faded original case colors across the profiles of both sides with the balance worn to a smooth grey patina. Fulcrum of the loading lever also shows some good original case colors.  The barrel has slight traces of original blue in protected areas with a small patch of faded blue around wedge on the left side of the lug.  Barrel address is perfect.  Cylinder shows traces of original blue in the stop notches with 80% cylinder scene and a legible 1843 Engagement date around the leading edge.  Back of cylinder has all 6 safety pins on the lugs between the cones.  Nice screws throughout with some showing good traces of original bright nitre blue.  Traces of blue on the trigger profiles.  Original walnut grips are in Fine condition with perfect wood to metal fit.  Best of all, the BUTT of the grips is perfect and has NEVER been used as a hammer to drive in tacks, nails, etc.  Action is Action is perfect...tight and crisp!  Barrel is tight to frame with a tight original wedge.  Bore is Good+ with strong rifling.   Just a NICE Colt Navy that is sharp and correct in every respect!
